It is with our deepest regrets that we share with you that the backcountry camps in the High Sierra will be unable to open this year due to the record-breaking snowpack in the High Sierras.
Each year the final snow survey is taken by the NPS Winter Rangers to assess when Tioga Pass and the High Sierra Camps, trails, and services can open for the season. This year’s snow is greater than the park has experienced since they started recording snowfall totals in the high country. With the snowpack in excess of 200% of normal, snow is expected to persist into the summer season, delaying both damage assessment and access of the trails and facilities. Impacts on the Tuolumne and White Wolf areas are still being considered at this time.
We know that this trip has been likely postponed for you for many years at this point and we simply cannot express how heartbroken we are to have to cancel this experience for yet another.
Your reservation will be canceled and refunded to the original method of payment, please note that this could take 10 - 14 business days depending on your financial institution.
As a High Sierra Camp lottery winner, you will be guaranteed a winning spot in next year’s lottery should you choose to enter it. More information regarding next year will be released prior to the 2024 lottery.
